The Godfather : the culprit!

I've been sleepless in the fast few days and the culprit is "The Godfather". It's a novel written by Mario Puzo. It details the story of a fictitious Sicilian Mafia family settled in USA and headed by Don Vito Corleone, who became synonymous with the Italian Mafia. I really like the story though it's full of crime and violence (but it doesn't mean that i'm a violent person..pero naa may essence ang violence and murders na gihimo..aheheh).

I really like reading since then and before I got my internet connection in the apartment, I spent my leisure time reading novels and I would sleep late just to continue reading. But after I got my internet connection, I was so thrilled and hooked to my computer that I don't have the time to read anymore, heheheh. But I'm really trying my best to read more nowadays and I think "The Godfather" is the 3rd novel I finished since I got my connection last february (so it means that I'm no longer reading a lot, huhuhuh).
Actually, I started reading this novel 1 month ago but I only read few pages because i'm getting crazy about surfing the net, and it was just this week that I continued reading it until I can't put it down anymore..I brought the novel to my employer's house and read it in the morning after making the lunchbox for the kids and continue reading after I'm done cleaning with the house and just last night, I kept reading until 2 in the morning, so I was still sleepy when I woke up in the morning and 10 minutes late for my duty..hehehhe..And just after cleaning the house today, I continued reading and finally I finished it at around 12 noon.Yesssss!!

I still have a lot of novels that I havn't read (I bought plenty at Booksale during my vacation in Pinas), so I'll choose another culprit for my future sleepless nights..hehehhe.

Here's a link to the summary of "The Godfather" if you want to know more about it.

Natural Weight Loss

Shedding off some of my weight is one of my goal eversince and sad to say that It's still an unrealized goal up to these days..huhuhuh. I always wanted to be slim and get rid of my "bilbil". My mind is willing, but my body is weak. That is, my mind is really determined, but my body is not cooperating and it easily give up whenever food is in the vicinity. What a shame!! but it's true, I just can't resist my cravings for food..huhuhuh..And it's one of the reasons why I keep on surfing about health, healthy lifestyles to get some tips from experts, hehhehe. I already tried a lot of slimming teas before, but to my disappointment, they didn't work at all. They just send me to the bathroom, everytime I take a cup of those slimming teas, hehhehe. Well, that's the main purpose, but after a few days,It losts its effectivity already.

(A picture taken during one of my weekends with my friends and we decided to have some exercise..gipamaulan mi pagkahuman, ahehhe. It's me in fuchsia leggings).

So I decided to loss some weight the natural way. That is by exercising and eating less. I'm trying to walk now everyday for 1 hour and eat less and I just hope that I can stick unto the routine. It's okey if I will not loss some weight, as long as I can maintain my weight now. I can't bear it if it increases for a kilo or more....huhhuhuhu

And as I was surfing the net, I found this article of Dr. Maoshing Ni about natural weight loss and maybe it will be of interest to you too. Just click here for the full story. Opppsss this is not a sponsored post...hehehhee..

Happy Slip

I was surfing the net the other day and I came across happyslip.com.Oppsss this is not a paid post (hehehe). I just want to share it with you because I find the site very funny.Maybe you already heard about it, but I'm still posting it though, hehehe. It's owned by a Filipina named Christine whose family is already living in the US. Her mom is from Manila and her Dad is from Nueva Ecija. She has won the 2006 Youtube Award for Best Comedy. She's making funny videos mostly about her family. It's a one-woman video since she's the only one acting for all the roles in a certain scene. She acts as her father, her mother, etc.

And it's really the history about the title of her site that I find very funny. While growing up, her mom was always quick to remind her to wear a half slip with her skirts (a typical filipino habit for girls especially if the skirt is "nipis"). Her mother would say “Your hap eslip!! Be sure to wear your hap eslip!!”. So she grew up thinking - the term was always “happy slip”, until she was corrected by classmates who asked her if she had a sad slip as well......hahhahaha...

So if wa moy lingaw..try to visit her site pra mag cge mog katawa...
This is just one of her funny videos:

Old Pictures

I just made a slideshow of the old pictures that Mama has scanned together with my only pic in my childhood. I'll just let the pictures do the talking, hehehe. Happy viewing.

Binuhat nga Mangingilad

Imo akong gipatoo sa imong mga pulong
nga nakapaluya sa akong bayhon.
Tungod sa akong kahuyang
nitoo ako sa walay langan langan.

Apan ako na lamang namat an
ang sakit nga kamatuoran.
Imo diay akong gi ilad

sa atong matam-is nga kagahapon.

A Very Sad News

It's already 2am here in Norway, but I'm still surfing the net. I went to the Philippine Inquirer's site to read about the current events in the Philippines. And the very sad news that caught my eyes is the beheading of 7 filipinos in Sulu by the Abbu Sayyaf. I was really very disgusted with the news and my prayers goes to the 7 victims and to their respective families.

2 of the 7 victims where teenagers.Jelowi Teodoro (16 years old) wanted was a summer job that would earn him some money so he could go to college. While his companion, Wilmer delos Santos, was hoping that he could use his meager wage to send his brothers to school. And another victim (a married man), his daughter is celebrating her 15th birthday when they received the news about his father's beheading. The report says that Abbu Sayyaf group has demanded for a 5 million ransom money for the release of the victims. For the full story about the news, just click here.

Mga Balak

I like writing "balak" as a way of expressing my feelings on a certain situation or in a specific moment of my life. Late last year, I was into this broken-hearted situation (hehehe) and I was able to write 3 and just lately, another 2 were added to my compilation. and I just wanted to share it with you for fun and I hope that it will also entertain you the way it did to my friends here, kay nalingaw kuno sila ug basa kay moot..aheheheh. All my "balaks" are also posted in my personal website. Here's the first piece:

ug nawad an pa sa kinadak-ang kabtangan.

Ako nagpasalamat ug dako uyamot
nga ako nakagawas sa imong mga kamot.
Ug karon ako kanang kalimtan sa dayon
nilalang nga mabudhion.

My childhood picture

I made my personal website at freewebs and wrote a story about myself. But it was purely text and no pictures at all. So I phoned my mother one day and asked her a favor to scanned old pictures for me. So she did and now I already have pictures on my About me section in my site.

I grew up in a rural area in Bohol and lived a very simple life with my loving family and friends. And part of that simplicity is the absence of camera. My beloved parents can't just afford to buy a camera when they're still struggling to provide for me and my siblings (aguyyy murag makahilak ko ani da,ahehe, pero next time na pod ang ubang story). So we don't have much pictures of our childhood to ponder upon.It doesn't matter to me though, what's important is the happy childhood that I shared with my parents, my brother and my friends that is always fresh in my mind, just like a newly taken picture.

And to be honest, I only have one solo picture as a child and I'm very glad that atleast I have one. My brother has one too. and I just want to share it with you because It's one of my dearly-kept treasures.

This is my only solo pic as a child....cutie pa ko ani da!ahehehe

And this is my brother's only solo pic too..he's really cute, way paglubad!

No Woman, No Cry

This is my all-time favorite of all Bob Marley's song, though I use to think that the meaning of the song is that "if there are no women, there will be no crying" or "do not cry if you don't have a woman". Despite the negative meaning of the song, I kept on loving it.

About 2 months ago, I did a research about the real meaning of the song because one of my online friends asked me about it. Then I gave him my answer that "if there are no women, there will be no crying" or "do not cry if you don't have a woman". But he was not satisfied, so i'm forced to look for documented answers, hehehe. And I'm glad I did because from my research, I found out that I have a wrong meaning about the song.

According to my research, No Woman, No cry is a jamaican patois which means "Don't Cry,woman". Wowww what an encouraging lines!I love the song even more, after knowing the real meaning of the song! It seems to me that Bob Marley is telling or encouraging me "not to cry" when facing difficulties in life...It's really a song of inspiration for me. If you want to know more about the meaning of the song, just click here.

Here's the complete lyrics of my favorite song No Woman, No Cry :

No, woman, no cry;
No, woman, no cry;
No, woman, no cry;
No, woman, no cry.

Said - said - said: I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in trenchtown,
Oba - obaserving the ypocrites
As they would mingle with the good people we meet.
Good friends we have, oh, good friends weve lost
Along the way.
In this great future, you cant forget your past;
So dry your tears, I seh.

No, woman, no cry;
No, woman, no cry.
ere, little darlin, dont shed no tears:
No, woman, no cry.

Said - said - said: I remember when-a we used to sit
In the government yard in trenchtown.
And then georgie would make the fire lights,
As it was logwood burnin through the nights.
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge,
Of which Ill share with you;
My feet is my only carriage,
So Ive got to push on through.
But while Im gone, I mean:
Everythings gonna be all right!
Everythings gonna be all right!
Everythings gonna be all right!
Everythings gonna be all right!
I said, everythings gonna be all right-a!
Everythings gonna be all right!
Everythings gonna be all right, now!
Everythings gonna be all right!

So, woman, no cry;
No - no, woman - woman, no cry.
Woman, little sister, dont shed no tears;
No, woman, no cry.

I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in trenchtown.
And then georgie would make the fire lights,
As it was logwood burnin through the nights.
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge,
Of which Ill share with you;
My feet is my only carriage,
So Ive got to push on through.
But while Im gone:

No, woman, no cry;
No, woman, no cry.
Woman, little darlin, say dont shed no tears;
No, woman, no cry.

Eh! (little darlin, dont shed no tears!
No, woman, no cry.
Little sister, dont shed no tears!
No, woman, no cry.)

Yessssss, atlast my shoutbox is working again. It was in the afternoon that it was fixed. All i did was keep on clicking the back button until the shoutbox was displayed once again.yeheyyyyyyyyy!!

Bob Marley fanatic

I'm really a Bob Marley fanatic, I just love his music. I think it was in my college days that I first heard about him. All I knew that time was that he's a jamaican singer and that reggae is the type of his music. And from that time on, I started to like his music. After hearing his song, No Woman No cry, my love for his music got intense.

I've already done researches about him and the meanings of his songs. And I downloaded a lot of his songs in my laptop and still looking for more songs.

What's wrong with my Cbox?

I'm just wondering what's happening with my cbox here...the messages of my visitors no longer appear...any idea why?

T.G.I.F

Thanks GOd It's Friday once again! I finished my job at around 3pm and I hurried to my apartment to have a nap. But it was a failure because until now, I'm still hooked unto my laptop, hehehe. I'm about to npa at 4pm but some of my friends were online, so I chatted with them. I already decided to stay at my apartment for the weekend and isolate myself for a while, lol.

My employer asked me to look after the kids tonight since they are both going out. My male employer is suppose to stay home with the kids but he got a late invitation,so they asked me to look after the kids. And I'm now in my employer's house and I guess it will be late 'til I can finally have some sleep since they usually go home from a party at around 2 in the morning.

Shrimps with Mushroom and Cabbage

I voluntered to shop for food today right after going to the bank to open an account. My employer was glad because they havn't done enough shopping lately. So I went to the filipino store in the city and bought some noodles, shrimps, corn in can, mushroom in can, garlic, ginger, sweet chili sauce and vegetables.

I called my friend, Ate Evelyn, in the afternoon and asked her about the menu, hehehe. I always call her when I have quiries about cooking. She is also a filipina working as an au pair here in Norway and we've been good friends since our Denmark days. She also worked as a nanny in Singapore and Hongkong for 5 years, thus her good cooking skills.

During my last visit to her apartment, she prepared the shrimps with mushroom and cabbage and I really liked it, so I promised to make it one day for my hostfamily. And so I made it for dinner today and I was really satisfied because they liked it, though the kids only ate a little portion since they don't like shrimps, but atleast the parents liked it and there was no left over, as usual. There's always no left over everytime I make filipino food for them.

Here's the ingredients:

500g shrimps
1 can mushroom
cabbage (volume is up to you)
garlic, onion
soy sauce
flour

Saute garlic and onion then add shrimps. Then add mushroom and cabbage. Pour some soy sauce and add a little portion of water. Mix a little portion of flour in a cup with a little bit of water and add it to the pan to make the soup a little sticky. Let it boil until it's done and it's ready for serving.

Eureka!

I got familiar with this expression during my college days and i think it was in one of my physics class that I first heared about it. Or maybe, I already heared about it in my high school days, but just forgot about it,hehehe. And this expression always comes to mind everytime I have little discoveries or achievements. A vivid example was during the installation of my shoutbox (powered by Cbox), I mentioned "eureka" in my entry, hehehe.

Just a few minutes ago, I wrote an entry in my other blog,Julai's Undertakings and I unintentionally used the word "eureka" again. So I decided to make some research about it to refresh my knowledge about the origin of the word. Here it is:

Eureka (word)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eureka is an exclamation used as an interjection to celebrate a discovery. It is most famously attributed to Archimedes; he reportedly uttered the word when, while bathing, he suddenly understood that the volume of an irregular object could be calculated by finding the volume of water displaced when the object was submerged in water. After making this discovery, he is said to have leapt out of his bathtub and run through the streets of Syracuse naked. Archimedes' insight led to the solution of a problem that had been asked of him by Hiero of Syracuse, on how to assess the purity of an irregular golden crown: by dividing the object's weight by its volume, one could calculate its density, an important indicator of purity. This story first appeared in written form in Vitruvius' books of architecture, two centuries after it supposedly took place.[1] Some scholars have doubted the accuracy of this tale, saying among other things that the method would have required precise measurements that would have been difficult to make at the time.[2]

Another famous mathematician, Carl Friedrich Gauss, echoed Archimedes when in 1796 he wrote in his notebook, "Heureka! num= Δ + Δ + Δ," referring to his discovery that any positive integer could be expressed as the sum of at most three triangular numbers.

The expression is also quoted as the state motto of California, referring to the momentous discovery of gold near Sutter's Mill in 1848. The California State Seal has included the word "Eureka" since its original design by Robert S. Garnett in 1849; the official text from that time describing the seal states that this word's meaning applies "either to the principle involved in the admission of the State or the success of the miner at work". In 1957, the state legislature attempted to make "In God We Trust" the state motto, but this attempt did not succeed, and "Eureka" became the official motto in 1963.[3]

Heureka is the 1st person singular perfect indicative active of the Greek verb heuriskein, (Greek εὑρίσκειν) meaning "to find"; it means "I have found it!", or more accurately, "I am in a state of having found it".The English version of the word is pronounced IPA: [/juːˈriːkə/]; in ancient Greek ηὕρηκα (later εὕρηκα) would have been pronounced /ˈheʷreːka/ in both former and later forms, while the modern Greek pronounciation is /ˈevrika/.

Our Daily Bread

I bought an "Our Daily Bread" book (January-December 2007) during my vacation in the Philippines last year. I'm reading it constantly, but sometimes I'll missed it especially during weekends because I'm not bringing the book with me. There's a daily story for the entire year, as well as chapters and verses in the Bible that are related to the story. And at the end of the story, there's a quote which is also related to the story.

The story that I took today is titled " Are you free?" and the related readings are Exodus 25 - 26 and Matthew 20: 17 - 34. While the related verse is from Galatian 4:31 " We are not children of the bondwoman but of the free". The quote is " True freedom is found in bondage to Christ".

Bloggerwave Approval

Ate Nita e-mailed me last night about a new site that pays bloggers while blogging.I immediately submitted my blog to Bloggerwave (the name of the site)after receiving the e-mail but I havn't receive any approval e-mail so I went to bed disappointed.

I woke up at 6 o'clock this morning and I checked my e-mail once more and there's no approval from Bloggerwave. So I started working at 7 o'clock and walked my employer's eldest child to school. And after coming from school, I went directly to my apartment to check my e-mail once more, but there's still no approval. I got the idea of editing my blog submission profile since I didn't put RSS on the form. I'm not sure what RSS is, so I sent Ate Nita an e-mail about it last night and I got her reply just this morning. I edited my blog profile twice and just a few minutes ago,I received an e-mail informing me that my blog has been approved. I'm really happy and screaming for joy right now!hehehe. Thanks a lot Ate Nits. I really owe you a lot now.

Bloggerwave pays bloggers to write and promote their advertisers and their products, services, etc. They are still looking for more bloggers, so submit your blogs now for approval. Signing up for them is free and all you have to do is wait for the confirmation e-mail to get started.

I have to go back to work now because I still have to clean my employer's house.

MTV channel on my TV

The TV on my apartment was no longer switched on after I had my wireless internet connection. I was too occupied with my laptop and was no longer interested in watching TV.But during my bestfriend's visit last thursday (I wrote about it in my earlier post), she switched on the television and I was shocked because there's already an MTV channel on it.

I use to watch TV in the evening when my internet connection was not available yet. And there were only 3 channels available : BBC World, Disney Channel and Animal Planet. But I really wished that there will be an MTV channel since I like watching music videos and I'm also use to watch it in my employer's place during my relaxation time. I already memorized the title of the songs such as the sweet escape by gwen stefani, irreplaceable by beyonce, etc. Just recently, MTV channel was no longer available in my employer's TV so I was not able to watch it for maybe a month now. Maybe it was no longer available in their TV because it was transferred into my TV,lol. Whatever the reason is , I'm really happy that MTV channel is now on my television.

Sidney Sheldon

Reading novels is one of my ultimate hobbies. And some of the writers whom I like are: Stephen King (my favorite), John Grisham, Jonathan Kellerman, Michael Crichton, Ken Follett, Robin Cook, Dan Brown, J.K. Rowling and Sidney Sheldon.

I was able to read in a magazine (February issue) about Sheldon's death and the thought just kept on coming unto my mind because I just can't believe that The World's Master Storyteller had already passed away. He passed away on January 30, 2007.

Doom's Day Conspiracy and Morning, Noon & Night were two of his novels that I was able to read. The stories were really great. For sure, he will always be a legend in the world of writing.

Easter Snow

I attended the Tagalog Mass at 3 PM this afternoon at St. Joseph Church together with my cousin. There were a lot of filipinos and the church was very full.

And as we went out after the mass, we were very disappointed because it was snowing! My cousin and I were only using thin jackets since the weather was so nice since the weekend so we were no longer expecting for a snow!! We walked to the train station freezing and then I took the bus to my place and walked another 20 minutes to my apartment. I was really freezing when I arrived at my apartment. I immediately boiled water for tea and ate some bread.

And now here I am in my room, under the sheets and still clicking the keyboard despite the cold..LOL.

Happy Easter Everyone and May the Risen LORD be with us all!

Blog Approval

It's already 1:17 AM here in Norway but I'm still awake. I continued editing my site after watching a Maalaala Mo Kaya (filipino series) episode, Regalo, with my cousin. After the movie, i continued enhancing my site. And about 20 minutes ago, I received an e-mail from blogvertise informing me that my blog has been approved. Yesssss!!! I'm really euphoric right now!

As I mentioned in my earlier post, i had already submitted a blog account in blogvertise and I was able to submit 1 entry, but I stopped doing the assigned tasks because I was still confused on what to do since blogging was still vague to me during that time.

Just recently, Ate Nitz (my friend to whom I owe the creation of this site) has taught and explained to me a lot of things about blogging and now the world of blogging is becoming clearer to me. And so I submitted my new blog to blogvertise just this afternoon. I'm really happy because the answer is very quick and much to my delight, it has been approved!Hurrah!!!

Shrek

I was busy editing my sites today and i was a little bit guilty because I was not able to entertain my bestfriend that much.:(

She watched Shrek 2 in the afternoon and I'm glad because she enjoyed it. We ate a delicious dinner (rice, fish and shrimp) of course made by my bestfriend, she's really a great cook.

My Bestfriend's Visit

Around 7 this evening, my bestfriend and cousin arrived here in my apartment to visit me. She is also working as an au pair here in Norway and just like me, she also worked as an au pair in denmark before working here.

Her host family lives near Oslo, and that's around 30 minutes from my place. So we only see each other during weekends. She still had to work until this afternoon since her hostfamily is just staying home.

Oh by the way, my bestfriend's name is Bhing and we call each other "best". I'm really glad that she came to visit because I won't be lonely and bored anymore. It's her first time to visit my apartment.

Personal Website

Almost 1 month ago, i created a personal website at freewebs with the help of my very dear friend, Ate Gagiers. Since I don't have knowledge on web making, so i always ask her for help. She taught me all the basic informations about web making and gave me tutorial links. I kept on editing my website and also kept on reading about the tutorials. I only allowed Ate Gags, my teacher, to view my site since it not yet pleasing, ahehehe.

About a week ago, i started writing something about CWL, the yahoo conference that i'm joining almost every night. The blog was quite long so it took me days to finish it. And last night,i finally finished the CWL blog and i'm really happy about it (i slept at 4:30 in the morning). The template also looks good now (atleast to my standard as a newbie, hehehe) so I already decided to open it to my friends for viewing. I just hope that they will like my creation.

If you have some spare time, visit my personal website , Julai's Adventures and Explorations and feel free to explore it.

Things I Like About My Country

Ate Nitz (Nita's Ramblings) has tagged me today to write something about the things that i like about my country. Though a lot of negative things are already said about the Philippines but i still like my co-filipinos in general and their hospitality. I've been to several places in the world but filipino hospitality is still the best, for me.

I'm currently working in Norway as an au pair. Though the cost of living here is quite expensive, but still i like it here. The government system is very organize, the surroundings is clean and the thing that i like most is that there's equality for all, whether norwegians or foreigners.

Back in my apartment

I just arrived from my long weekend an hour ago. I spent my weekend in my friend's place and decided to stay there until tuesday since my host family is having their 1 week easter holiday, so they told me that i have 1 week off too.

i had a lot of fun with my friends during the weekend. We went window shopping in the city on Saturday and we went to another friend's place last night to meet some filipino seafarers.

And now i'm really glad that i'm back at my apartment because i want to spend some time alone and think about a lot of things and do some "muni-muni" for the lenten season.

X-ray appointment

Yesterday at 13:20 pm, i had an X-ray appointment in Ullevaal Universitet Sykehus in Oslo. All au pairs working here in Norway should undergo an X-ray to check for Tuberculosis aside from the obligatory TB test.

The nurse who took my X-ray says that the X-ray picture looks good, but medically, only the doctor can give the exact findings. She told me that if there's something wrong with my lungs, i can receive a letter from the hospital 2-4 weeks from now. If everything is fine, then there will be no letters at all.

I just hope i won't receive any letter from the hospital.

Palm Sunday

Together with my 3 friends, i attended the Tagalog Mass at 3:30 in the afternoon at St. Joseph Church in Oslo City. We went to the City 1 hour before the mass schedule because we still don't know the exact location of the church. We agreed earlie to meet our other friends outside St. Olav Church because they're going to show us the way to St. Joseph. St. Olav Church is where we always attend English mass at 6 o'clock in the evening every Sunday.

And so our 2 friends led ud to St. Joseph and we were really laughing because we found out that St. Joseph is just the next building to the right of St. Olav.

We were able to get palms courtesy of the servers in the Church and we also met some other filipinos there. The mission priest is from Cebu and i really liked his homily. We also attended the Station of the Cross after the mass.

Shout box

I just made my shout box yesterday and i'm really proud about it,hehehe. I got the idea of putting a shout box in my site upon visting Ate Nita's blogsite (Nita's Corner)and she was also the very first one to leave a message in it.

I found the installation of the shout box easy. I just made an account at Cbox and then provided the needed information on where to put the shout box and after a few minutes....eureka!!!my shout box was already installed.

Once again, thanks Ate Nits.
